When two or more teachers choose to teach the same group of students at the same time, many different methods and approaches may be utilized. It is most common to see two teachers collaborating with this type of team teaching due to space and funding available. There are a number of different roles and responsibilities that each teacher may take on, based on the needs of the students, and the lesson, activity, or assessment being carried out. Research commonly identifies six models of team teaching, each which are used in combination during Type A team teaching. Each team teacher will choose which model is best suited for their classroom based on their own personalities, philosophies, and strengths, as well as those of the learners in their classrooms (Goetz, 2000).
